We started the day by driving back to dad’s line in the sand. Then, we took a leisurely ride through vineyards and orchards to Winters. Along the way we saw deer, wild turkeys, geese, quail, cows, and horses. We even had the company of two deer who ran along the road with us for a short way. In Winters, we took a short break to enjoy the quiet. We rode up and down Main Street in Winters, which is the quintessential small town USA, with a population of 6,600 people. From there, we road on to Davis for lunch. We saw many bicyclists along the way, both bike tourers and bike racers in training. The very flat rode to Sacramento was only marred by the noisey freeway next to the bike path. Mom met us at the back gate to our hotel, which is right along the American River. Mom has spent most of the day enjoying the many sights of our state capital. We end the day eating pizza with the Scantlins in Old Town Sacramento. We’re so glad that they could join us. Today’s mileage total is 49.1 with an average pace of 10.7 miles per hour. Our total trip mileage is 90.8 miles.
